Rules

These rules are intended to help provide the best possible playing experience. The CVL organisers and referees will be responsible for enforcing the rules. Rules can be changed on the day as long as all coaches agree. Central to this is that coaches put the player experience for both their team and the opposition’s team at the heart of what they do.

Player Eligibility

No National League players unless playing up a year and only entered if a coach feels their team would not get a positive experience without them playing. Max 2 NL players per team and 1 only on the court at any time. All players must play in each half.

Age Groups

  • U12 (Mixed) - School Years 6 & 7-Girls can play down an age group.

  • U14 (Mixed) - School Years 8 & 9-Girls can play down an age group.

  • U16 - School Years 10 & 11

  • U12/u13 Girls - School Years 6, 7, 8

  • U14/u15 Girls - School Years 8, 9, 10

Dates/Venues/Age Groups

Sunday 4 May - Abingdon College-u12 Mixed

Sunday 11 May  -Abingdon & Witney-u14s Mixed

Sunday 15 June - Abingdon College- All Girls

Sunday 22 June - White Horse Leisure Center-u13 & u15 Girls

Sunday 29 June - Abingdon and Witney College-u12 mixed, u14 mixed, u16 boys.

Tournament Format

Each team will play a qualifying round with an equivalent of 40 minutes clock time. There will be one qualification round per age group except girls who will all play on 1 day. Subsequently each team will either play 1 game for a final placing or a semi-final for a place in their age group final.

Final placing games and semi-finals will be played on 29 June and another date TBN in July. Finals date will will also be in July date TBN.

CVL Game Format

Timings:

(i) The game shall be made up of 2 halves

(ii) Each half will last 10 minutes.

(iii) The clock shall be running, except for the last 2 minutes of the game.

(iv) Overtime shall be a period of 2 minutes, stopping clock.

(vi) Free Throws = In act of shooting 2 points unless during last 2minutes of the game when it be 1 normal rules.

(vii) Timings are flexible depending upon no of team entries, court time available and age group.

Substitutions: 

Normal rules.

Time-Outs:

Each team shall be allowed one time-out of 1 minutes in each half.

Defence:

(i) U16 Boys = any defence except no full-court press

(ii) U14 Mixed = player to player half court only—no full court press

(iii) U12 Mixed =player to player half court only—no full court press

(iv) Girls=player to player half court only—no full court press

Officials

CVL - 2 Senior & 2 Junior official; sharing court and table duties.

The CVL will be used for junior development.

Safeguarding

Parent/Supporter behaviour to be monitored and Basketball England (BE) Guidance on show

Photo’s - teams to complete a google form for whole squad allowing photos.

Insurance

The CVL has been approved by BE and will be run by Abingdon Eagles Foundation which has Public Liability Insurance. Players do not have to be Basketball England registered but will need their own sports insurance if they do not have a BE licence.

Cost

The cost is £60 per team per qualifying round and £30 per team per final pacing game/semi-final.
